Hi Annapoorna - how about studying a relatively new and yet very old way to help this little girl to improve the actual use of her arm and hand? You do not have to teach her to compensate - that comes naturally!
Recommended reading: Crocker MD, MacKay-Lyons M, McDonnell E "Forced Use of the Upper Extremity in Cerebral Palsy : A Single-Case Design" The American Journal of Occupational Therapy Nov/Dec 1997, vol 51, no 10.
This method is nowadays called Constraint Induced Movement Therapy, CI-therapy for short. It is in use in the US of A and there is also a growing interest in Sweden. Research has been done in The Netherlands and in Germany. It originated through research made by Edward Taub and Stephen Wolf, University of Alabama at Birmingham and Emory School of Medicin in Atlanta Georgia. It is mainly being used for strokepatients but young children have had good results also.
Want to know more? Search MedLine, Taub E to begin with? If you´re really interested I have loads of literature references and also some experience of treating adults with CI-therapy.
Hope this is of interest
