There are quite a few measures that might be suitable for a more
multi-professional angle with your population, for example ...

Adelaide Activities Profile
Bond M, Clark M (1998) Clinical applications of the Adelaide Activities
Profile Clinical Rehabilitation 12, 228-237.

Frail Elderly Assessment of Function
Gloth FM, Walston J, Meyer J, Pearson J (1995) Reliability and validity of
the Frail Elderly Functional Assessment questionnaire Am J Phys Med Rehabil
74, 1, 45-53.

Physical Activity Scale for the Elderly (PASE)
ORIGINAL REFERENCE: Washburn RA, Smith KW et al (1993) The physical activity
scale for the elderly (PASE): development and evaluation Journal of Clinical
Epidemiology 46(2): 153-162.

Philadelphia Geriatric Center Morale Scale
Lawton M (1975) The Philadelphia Geriatric Centre Morale Scale: A Revision
Journal of Gerontology 30, 1, 85-89.

Which one you choose will depend on a variety of factors, e.g. aim of team
intervention, cost, time, purpose for measuring, who the information is for.

More information on these measures (and others) is available from the CSP
outcome measures database: http://www.nice.org.uk

Subject: Validated assessment tools

I wonder whether any interested parties or community-based PTs would be
willing to help me with their help and advise on choosing tools which will
help to form part of and assessment programme for Older People living in
their homes.

We are in the process of change and are looking for useful, practical and
auditable methods of providing a service to people over the age of 65 who
will be referred to our service. From the PT angle I am considering the
'Elderly Mobility Scale' (EMS.) Smith (1995) and the 'Timed 'up-and-go'
measure', (Podsiadlo, 1989), as practical, time-saving, reliable measures
to take out into the community.

My remit is also to come up with tools which OTs and Nurses might wish to
use as well.

You may wish to E-mail me privately at:

if further info. is required.

Any advice will be appreciated.

Dez.
"One love!"
We're all a part of the process...:)
