Sara Fabrikant and I are organizing a special session on
"SPATIALIZATION" for the 2001 AAG Meeting, co-sponsored by the
Cartography and GIS specialty groups. The session will be devoted to
research into the development of principles, techniques and interfaces
for NON-GEOGRAPHIC INFORMATION VISUALIZATION. It will highlight the
various ways in which geographers are contributing to this evolving
field of research, including the following aspects:
- geographic notions, like scale or distance
- cartographic techniques, like generalization or map projections
- statistical tools for information mapping, like MDS or SOM
- spatialized interfaces for data mining and knowledge discovery
- spatial metaphors for interaction with non-geographic
information
- adoption of GIS data models for spatialization
If you would like to participate in this special session, please submit
(1) the program participation form,
(2) the participation fee,
(3) an abstract (on floppy disk and/or emailed)
to me at the address listed below.
I need to receive all materials by August 23, in order to be able to
send the complete package to the AAG office by September 1.
Please see http://www.aag.org/PDF/2001call.pdf for further information,
including the Program Participation Form.
