PROGRAMMER (CHCC PROJECT)
History Data Service, Data Archive, University of Essex
The JISC is funding a three-year project to develop the Collection of
Historical and Contemporary Census Data and Related Materials (CHCC) into a
major learning and teaching resource as part of a major national initiative
to enhance use of JISC services in learning and teaching.
The History Data Service is seeking to recruit a Programmer to develop and
implement a web-based access and delivery system for the Historical Censuses
Collection as part of this project. The person appointed would join a
multidisciplinary team of four in the History Data Service, which includes
both historians and IT specialists. S/he will also have the opportunity to
work with the Data Archive technical team.
Applicants should have good programming and problem-solving skills.
Knowledge of relational databases would be an added advantage, as would
experience of developing database and online applications and/or experience
of working with large databases. Training will be provided where necessary.

Appointment to this post will be for 21 months from 1 October 2000, and will
be on the scale, £19,482 - £25,213 per annum.
