You might be interested to know that transcripts and articles from BioMed
Central's 'Freedom of Information' conference are now available at:
http://www.biomedcentral.com/info/information.asp.
There was some fairly plain language and heated discussion. Pieter Bolman,
CEO of Academic Press, suggested that PubMed Central is just a "starry-eyed
egalitarian spoof" dreamt up by "ivory tower academics". And Dr Pat Brown,
one of the architects of the PubMed Central initiative called upon the
scientific community to "insist their work be treated as a public resource -
unbalkanised and untaxed by the parasites in the publishing world."
If you would like more information about the conference and the next stage
of BMC's 'Freedom of Information' campaign. Send me a message at the address
