I'm endeavouring to buy a reasonably priced electronic measuring device that
will be used principally in sensitive rock art sites. Some of the panels are
in awkward places inside the rock shelters and getting precise measurements
from the base line can be difficult. Also there is a requirement of
portability as the sites are well off the beaten track and in some cases
high up escarpments.
One instrument I've come across in Australia would be ideal but the cost is
the equivalent of US$2000 and well outside my budget. It's a small laser
contraption (approx 20cm x 15 x 10) that can measure up to 30 metres without
the aid of a target and up to 100 metres with. Manufacturers accuracy claim,
a 1 millimetre error factor in a 100 metres.
Any leads on a cheaper comparable instrument would be really appreciated.
