John
I do the same myself John and it soon sorts it out. It is usually 6 or one
and half a dozen of the other, but very satisfying in my opinion. However
does take a bit of time and unfortunately becoming even more dificult to get
through to colleagues in Primary Care, even during the day.
The patients or do we call them the clients play one off against the other.
Usually blame the receptiionist or the GP. When I disappear into the office
and make an appointment for the patient to see the GP in 20 mins I have a
chuckle to myself as I send them packing.
Had a case that typifies the problem. Happened long time ago so doesn't
breach confidentaility and no one can identify person concerned. Lady came
to A & E late in the evening with 5 month H/O pain in the elbow. Dept busy
and in my opinion not really appropriate as late in day and hadn't contacted
GP. Doctor on duty in view of fact didn't injure the arm, didn't X-ray.
Subsequently attended GP, who she should have done in the first place. He
knows she has a NG of the breast and does X-ray during office hours and
finds boney met.
If she had gone through the proper channels would have got proper diagnosis,
quicker.
