Agree totally with these points. I can't quote the references, but Matthew
Cooke has written some good reviews making the same points. The other point
is that the presence of a spinal injury is an indication for removal from
the board more urgently- risk of pressure sores is high. BTW, in hospital I
tend to refer to the board as an 'extrication board' to make the point.

1 Why can we not use spinal boards for transport and ALL patients can come
off the boards and
placed onto nice soft mattress. The Docs are going to have to assess at some
time why not do it when you have spare people around (the ambulance crew) to

2.Call me simplistic, but if you tape the head down to the trolley and let

body, which is heavy, move against a fixed point (the c-spine) it has
potential to result in injury or compound existing injury. The point of
stress between the movable and immovable part of the body is the very area
we are trying to reduce stress and movement on.
