UKOLN currently has vacancies for the posts of Interoperability Research
Officer and Web Editor.
UKOLN is a national centre of expertise for digital information management
supporting the library, information and cultural heritage communities.
Situated at the University of Bath we are part of the Division for Access
and Continuing Studies (DACS).
We are successful in influencing policy regarding the development of new
services to our communities, gaining funding for research and development
projects, building demonstrator systems and services, and providing a range
of information and awareness services. We take a leading role in the UK
library and information communities facilitating consensus-building through
awareness and events services.
Interoperability Research Officer (Ref. No. 00/280)
The Interoperability Research Officer is a new post within UKOLN's Policy
and Advice Team and will have a key role in promoting and facilitating
inter-working between the cultural heritage sector, libraries, archives, and
government. There is some flexibility about location, it is expected to be
co-located with the Interoperability Focus at the University of Hull but may
be located in Bath.
You will have an awareness of relevant technical developments as well as an
understanding of emerging trends in networked information initiatives in UK
cultural heritage institutions, libraries and archives. You will possess
excellent written and spoken communications skills, and will want to take an
active role in developing and disseminating guidance to a wide audience.

Starting salary will be in the range of 16,775 - 25,213 per annum
depending on qualifications and experience. Contract will be for a two year
period, in the first instance.
Web Editor (Ref. No. 00/281)
The Web Editor will be a member of UKOLN's Information Services Team and
will be responsible for managing and maintaining the UKOLN and DACS Web
service. The post holder will be responsible for establishing a well
designed architecture for both sites, and will be committed to interpreting
the existing technical content for a wider audience.
You will have experience of managing the content of Web sites and will have
used HTML tools to produce high quality Web resources. You will be given the
opportunity to develop your existing skills in network-based information
handling, organisation, quality control and publicity.
