Dear listmembers
On July 10th did john a w lock call our attention to the Christie's sale of
the Library of William Foyle on:
http://www.christies.com/index.asp?action=sale&id=10581
It was indeed very interesting, but Helas! - the day after the auction did
Christie's remove the most valuable part *the jpeg images* from the
manuscripts.
How could I bee that naive to think that the pictures would be left there
forever? It has been a very painful experience, and I'm certainly not going
to miss the next opportunity, at the sale of Western Illuminated
Manuscripts in December!
The catalogue is still there today, where I have downloaded the description
of the lot numbers 38-70 (All ms. books of hours).
The pictures from books of hours (of different uses) has an immense
research value to me, and I'm desperate to get a copy (I ran through them
all in a library where they can be printed out, but not downloaded).
Has anybody downloaded the corresponding images before the 14th when the
sales were over?
I'm fully aware that the pictures occupy a hughe amount of diskspace, and
not are easy to transfer - but if you got them, and we can make some
arrangement, can I offer to make you a CD-Rom full of excellent jpegs from
illuminated manuscripts in return for the pictures.
Please reply off list.
Thanks
Erik Drigsdahl
