Apologies for cross-posting, and apologies if you already know about
all this.
I saw the following announcements/comments on the lis-maps list --
I've deleted the names in case the people who made them wanted to be
left anonymous, when being relayed elsewhere.
Original announcement:
"A version of the 1st edition six inch Ordnance Survey maps
for virtually the whole of the United Kingdom has recently
gone on line at http://www.old-maps.co.uk/ "
Comment 1:
"These probably derive from the OS Record Map Library set (i.e. many
will be `final states', with railway and boundary revisions),
supplemented by A Certain Collection Somewhere In The Metropolis - but
I am not sure if it wishes to be identified!"
Comment 2:
"This is a nice file but the "virtually the whole of the UK "
needs some qualification there are still sig. gaps (vide Lpool!!)."
My comment:
I've had a look myself. The maps are not immaculate print quality,
and you couldn't print them off for reproducing in something, but the
information is there. I think people might find them useful for
information and reference.
Roger Fern.
