The dc-citation working group looked into using DC for journal
article citations where there is a journal title as well as an article
title. The final decision, though this has not yet been ratified by DC,
was that the journal and volume information should be held within a
structured string in DC.Identifier as eg:
<DC.Identifier>JournalTitleFull: My Journal; JournalChronology:
January 2000; JournalVolume: 10; JournalIssueNumber: 1;
JournalPages: 25-30</DC.Identifier>
Given qualifiers this could be a structured value, but the Bath
Profile currently specifies use of DC1.1 which doesn't include
qualifiers. Also the DC ratified qualifiers include 'Alternative Title'.
Using DC for journal article citations is explained more fully in a
paper accepted for ECDL2000 in Lisbon in September. A pre-print
of this paper can be read at:

I don't know of any work having been done so far on citing
conference articles. I think this would be a good thing for the dc-
citation group to look at next.

PS. In case anyone is wondering, Ashley and I do talk to each
other! But I thought others on this list may be interested in my
answer. The delay in replying was because I was on holiday.
