Solo-librarian at International Institute for Democracy and Electoral
Assistance (International IDEA)
With its headquarters on an island in the centre of Stockholm and its
international staff comprising 30 nationalities, International IDEA offers a
stimulating work environment. We are looking for a modern librarian with at
least 5 years experience, who possesses excellent personal skills and enjoys
responding to a challenge. You should be fluent in spoken and written
English. Knowledge of other world languages, as well as one of the Nordic
languages is desirable.
Created in 1995, the Institute supports all aspects of the democratic
process and helps develop the institutions and culture of democracy.. It is
a place where those interested in democracy can obtain information and
practical advice on how to build their own form of democracy. It is also an
international meeting place where academics, policy makers and practitioners
can learn from each other.
There is a small, specialised traditional library at the HQ, which uses
MikroMarc. The successful candidate should be able not only to catalogue and
index but also maintain the system, which includes acquisitions and
self-service modules. The librarian should assist programme officers with
the projects being undertaken, lead the work with the intranet, support the
webmaster and advise the publications unit when necessary. The librarian
must be able to respond readily to the needs of the Institute staff, many of
whom operate in highly dispersed locations throughout the world.
