Thanks for all your responses to the query about rapid de-boarding. Choose your own
cliche here about food for thought / hornet's nests etc. No consensus obvious, yet.
I thought a summary of the replies so far (some have been off list) might be of
interest:
Few replies have answered the question about whether nurses routinely supervise de-
boarding.
Several have suggested use of scoop stretchers to safely de-board (problems with no
lift policy), or vacuum matress as more comfortable alternative which is safer than
lying on a trolley mattress.
Others have pointed out that paramedics are usually only to happy to assist de-
boarding. How would paramedics out there feel about routinely being asked to wait
and help once nurse / doc was able to assist log-rolling off? At least you'd get
your surf-board back in time for high tide!
Some pre-hosp carers have pointed out that leaving head pinned with body free is a
big no-no that perhaps hospital-based types are less acutely aware of.
