As CTANKS has just been released - it seems a good time to remind you of the
event below. The software may be of interest to those with multi media
concerns - or simply those restricted to a low budget and looking for a
transcription tool which has additional analytic features.
The CAQDAS Networking Project is holding a one-day hands-on workshop for
CTANKS on 11 October 2000 at the University of Surrey (UK).
(software developed by Alan Cartwright)
Summarising its main features
* Plays and allows transcription of audio and video files
* Allows ' hyper links' to be built in transcription to points in the
originating multi media files (or other files) - (possible reduction in need
to transcribe whole file - or to enable replay of important situation)
* Linked documents remain synchronised - e.g. scrolling section of
transcript will play back sound section of file - if required.
* Spell checker
* If a document contains references to more than one WAV file
CTANKS can extract the sound from each of the WAV files and combine them
into a single file.
* Note taking features
* Assign codes to transcribed text segments: text retrieval by codes
* Searching facilities
* Low cost
