My attention was caught by a note in the Publishers' Association
Electronic Bulletin indicating that RE:source has the future of the
BNBRF under discussion. The text of relevant correspondence is
attached.
I have now ensured that this will be discussed in Library Association
Committees over the next couple of weeks, and will alert UKAPE,
the publishing education group, as well as BAILER and LIRG.
I shall be attending the meeting of the LA- EPMS Committee on 18th
July, and would welcome comments before then. I will then draft a
BAILER comment to Mackay, who has once again left us out of the
net in discussing this!
Two points occur to me immediately that perhaps need to be made,
along with a rebuke to Mackay for forgetting his promise to consult
on matters that affect us.
The origins of the fund drew on the collective efforts of a widely
based group. Any future research funding activity by Resource should
be expected to reflect the interests of that entire consituency.
The practice of almost all research funding agencies is to have an
identifiable scheme for small grants, free from the constraints of pre-
determined themes, to encourage new ideas and/or new researchers.
We would not wish Resource to depart from that concept as
embedded in the BNBRF.
Any other thoughts?
