Hello friends and colleagues,
About a week ago, David shared the news of Phyllis's death. I hadn't
heard of it until then, and haven't heard ANYTHING else on here about
it. As someone who has been on this list with Phyllis for about five
years, and who spoke with her on occasion at SDS, I felt Phyllis was a
friend of certain kind, someone who provided me with the example of an
engaged scholar I must strive to live up to. The news affected me.
Since she died while SDS was in gear, perhaps word of her death spread
there. Perhaps SDS plans to honour her memory in the future in some
way. Perhaps a scholarship fund in her name could be developed whose
annual award would be given to an individual who, like Phyllis, combines
direct action with scholastic activity.
May I ask that we have some discussion on these matters, please??
Best regards, Shelley
