On a point of fact - formatting a hard disk will destroy all viruses and macros with a couple of
highly recondite exceptions that are not in circulation. However, if you save a document - you
save the infection too! This is particularly true of the visual basic and macro type of virus,
worm, or trojan horse. A quick cure for these only (not the HTML ones circulating now) is to
save all your documents from Word as rich text format (.rtf) as this preserves most of the
formatting and none of the macros. As I comment elsewhere, accessing the Internet without
tying down your extremely vulnerable computer system is like walking round a city centre at
midnight asking if someone wants to mug you.
