I happened to notice on the BASICS web site quite a lengthy section about VAT exemption when buying equipment for use as a BASICS doctor. Quite right that the organisation should help advise its members who give their time and money to support immediate care of critically ill and injured patients. Mark Nettleton's need for tax advise cannot be a unique problem - surely some advise from his BASICS colleagues, channelled through the organisation would be both appropriate and professional?

BASICS has no remit to advise anyone on taxation or indeed any other
financial matters. It is an association to promote immediate medical care
and provide education in immeduate care for its members.
I can assure you the head office of BASICS have no knowlledge of individuals
financial affairs whatsoever, and will not have any interest in the future,
nor does it have any idea of those of its members who may be in financial
difficulties with the tax man. And even if it did it would not tell anyone!!
I am sure however that any GP on the list might make contact personally to
assisst, if they have any thing to offer, but to expect BASICS to intervene
is a litlle off the mark.
