Over the years I have had the opportunity to treat several Yoga
instructors. A curious finding they all had in common was excellent
gross range of motion
but poor segmental findings. The findings of an almost ankylosed joint
play and
motion palpation findings was very curious indeed. Some perplexing
questions
have arisen in light of some recent developments and direction of my
clinical
research.
Has anyone else who uses segmental joint and motion palpation found this
with
Yoga teachers ?
Is this evidence against the use of prolonged static stretching ?
Should Yoga be performed in a more short duration dynamic fashion
(coactivation) ?
Is long lever arm stretching to generalized, in other words is it
creating more
laxity by stretching both laxity and shortened within the same
myofascial unit ?
Are there any studies in this regard with habitual Yoga participants ?
This by no means is a affront against Yoga. What Yoga teaches in regards
to
breathing and mind-body connectivity is unparalleled.
