Resource Appoints New Millennium Awards Administrator
London, 30 June 2000 - Resource: The Council for Museums, Archives and
Libraries has appointed Catherine Atkinson as the Millennium Awards
Administrator for the Sharing Museum Skills Awards Scheme. She takes over
from Annie Hollobone who has moved to the Millennium Commission.
Laura Drysdale, Director of Sector & Professional Services at
Resource, commented: "Sharing Museum Skills offers museum staff and
volunteers a fantastic opportunity to share and extend their experience.
The consortium of Resource, the Museums Association, the Association of
Independent Museums, the Committee of Area Museum Councils and the National
Museum Directors' Conference is delighted to have Catherine administering
the scheme. Annie did a wonderful job over the past two years and I am sure
Catherine will continue to take the scheme from strength to strength."
Catherine Atkinson was formerly Assistant Environmental Officer at
the Museums & Galleries Commission (MGC), working with the Environmental
Adviser and offering advice on applications for both lottery funding and the
Government Indemnity Scheme. She joined the MGC from the British Council,
where she was Assistant to the Director of Arts. Catherine is a qualified
Conservator.
The Sharing Museum Skills Millennium Awards Scheme draws upon the experience
and skills of national and non-national museums and their staff and
volunteers throughout the UK. Through an exchange programme the scheme
benefits both parties and helps develop links between UK museums and
galleries. The next deadline for applications is 10 August 2000, followed
by quarterly deadlines until May 2001. Grants awarded will normally be in
the region of £2,000-£4,000. More information can be found at

The Sharing Museum Skills Millennium Awards scheme is funded by the
Millennium Commission, which awarded a grant of £1.1 million to a consortium
comprising: Resource - The Council for Museums, Archives and Libraries; the
Museums Association; the Association of Independent Museums; the Committee
of Area Museum Councils and the National Museum Directors' Conference. The
Millennium Commission is one of the six good causes supported by the
National Lottery.
Resource is a new strategic agency which will work with museums, libraries
and archives across the UK. It replaced the Museums & Galleries Commission
