Cultural Web Workshop

Cultural Web Portals or Gateways are increasing in number at a variety of
levels e.g. national, European and international. In the UK the prime one
is the 24 Hour museum with 10 million hits to date. In the USA the portal
site of the Californian Arts Council looks like becoming an important one,
while in Scandinavia, CultureNet Sweden and its sisters in Denmark,
Finland and Norway are now well established. Internationally, the new
MUSEUMLAND portal is in rapid development. In this workshop the following
types of issues will be addressed:

- What advantages do Cultural Web Portals provide for Cultural
Institutions and their users / visitors?
- Which ones are the Most Useful for the different types of Cultural
Institutions?
- How best can Cultural Institutions make use of them?
- What does it take to create a Cultural Web Portal

This workshop will take advantage of the Thursday Conference session on
this topic. However, it will be a self-standing event aimed at cultural
institutions which are interested in obtaining benefit from Cultural Web
Portals as well as organisations wishing to building new ones and other
companies wishing to be involved in this dynamic new field.
