LTSN Subject Centre for Languages, Linguistics and Area Studies
http://www.lang.ltsn.ac.uk/
What is the Subject Centre?
The Subject Centre for Languages, Linguistics and Area Studies
has been set up by the funding bodies for higher education in
England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland. It is one of 24
Subject Centres which, between them, cover all academic subjects
in a national Learning and Teaching Support Network (LTSN).
What does the Subject Centre do?
It promotes high quality learning and teaching across all UK higher
education institutions. To achieve this it supports co-operation
between educators in its three key subject areas, provides an
information service, and promotes innovation in learning and
teaching. It also provides consultancy services, especially in
dissemination and evaluation of teaching and learning approaches.
A Centre in three locations
The Centre is led at the University of Southampton by Professor
Michael Kelly and a team which includes the Centre Manager and
two Academic Co-ordinators.
The Subject Centre team at the University of Hull takes
responsibility for activities in matters involving communications and
information technology (C&IT).
The Centre for Information on Language Teaching and Research
(CiLT) will maintain an Information Centre for the Subject Centre in
London, with telephone and drop-in access, and distribute printed
information on innovation, good practices, resources, training and
conferences.
