Center for Humanities
Central European University (CEU) is looking for a senior scholar with a
research record in one of our disciplines (International Relations and
European Studies, Political Sciences, Legal Studies, History, Medieval
Studies, Economics, Environmental Sciences and Policy, Sociology), who has
also a good scholarly and human record in interdisciplinary collaboration.
The candidate will be considered for heading the Center of Humanities that
CEU is about to establish. This implies in addition to the above, a flair
for intellectual entrepreneurship and a wide network of high-level academic
contacts.
The activity of the Center will cover broad areas of social sciences and
humanities. It will function as a laboratory of new ideas before the
University establishes new Departments. Original, interesting scholars from
around the world will be invited to spend short periods in Budapest and
possibly to teach a course, eventually on a visiting professorship basis.
The Center will serve as an agora for general intellectual discussion on
issues which are relevant to the region and other parts of the world
experiencing emerging democracies. A special emphasis will be put on areas
not yet existing at CEU, such as Anthropology, Cognitive Psychology,
Literary Studies, Visual and Performing Arts, etc.
CEU is a graduate university, offering master and doctoral programs with
English as the language of instruction. The university would like to attract
scholars who are willing to make a long-term commitment to living and
working in the region.
Applicants who are not citizens or permanent residents of Hungary will be
required to obtain a work permit. The compensation package is subject to
Hungarian taxation regulations. The initial contract is for five years.
Besides knowledge of English the knowledge of one or more languages of the
region is desirable.
