The latest statement of AUT concern is in the UPDATE Issue 67, June
2000, on p.2; "The ILT Must Progess". The problem is that the ILT has
failed to establish itself as a voluntary, independent organisation
with a mass membership, with low costs. There are real concerns over
the elaborate accreditation procedures and the worry is that these will
create "disparity of access" for staff on non-standard contracts. It
is pretty hard for established staff to be accredited, too.
There is a lot more to this than meets they eye! The ILT has failed to
make any headway here at Bristol, and unless the ILT management and
leadership makes acceptable overtures to the teaching profession, it
will be ignored.
