Well, now the cat's out of the bag. According to Sally Brown, director of
membership services at the Institute for Teaching and Learning (THES, last
Friday, May 26th), these are the best reasons that she can think of for
joining the ILT:
"Members' benefits include an international refereed journal, newsletter,
access to our website [!!] and substantial discounts on ILT books, events
and our annual conference ...'
Anyone interested in passive resistance - or should we go for a more
organized boycott of this fraudulent organization which has government
backing for imposing a closed shop? I am quite serious: there are issues of
teaching and training which are highly relevant to UK academics, but this
is purely a window-dressing exercise via a quango, which offers nothing of
use to its enforced membership, but is yet another aspect of the 'audit
economy' mentioned in previous messages. I would be interested in
participating in a campaign on non-membership, but the more widespread the
better, clearly.
