These three year appointments are to work on the development of intelligent 
and web based collaborative systems to support organisational learning and 
knowledge management in the engineering domain. The work will be carried 
out in the context of the EU 5th Framework funded Clockwork project. This 
is a high profile, leading edge R&D initiative, involving five European 
research centres and two engineering companies. The objectives of the 
project are to support: (i) knowledge sharing within distributed design 
groups, (ii) reuse of design knowledge within organisations, and (iii) 
collaboration and negotiation between companies. The appointments will be 
made on the Research staff salary scale, £16,286 - £24,479 p.a., or £22,579 
- £30,065 p.a., depending on qualifications and experience.

Three year Research Fellowship in intelligent systems (Post No.11106)

Applications are welcomed from researchers with a background in computer 
science, artificial intelligence or knowledge based systems. The job will 
involve developing knowledge models and technologies to support 
collaboration and knowledge reuse in engineering design The candidate 
should be a highly competent programmer (ideally with experience in Common 
Lisp and Java) and should have knowledge of AI technologies (e.g. 
ontologies, problem solving methods, knowledge representation etc.). 
Applicants are expected to have excellent written and verbal communication 
skills and the ability to work as part of a team. As the work is in the 
engineering domain a knowledge of simulation and modelling tools (e.g. 
MatLab) would be desirable, but not essential. An interest in 
organisational learning or knowledge management would also be useful.

Three year Research Fellowship in web-based collaborative systems (Post 
No.11108)

Applications are welcomed from researchers with a good knowledge in 
internet technology, client/server communication, and distributed 
computing. The job will involve developing an infrastructure to support a 
methodology for web based engineering design .The applicant must have a 
good knowledge of web server technology and be a highly competent 
programmer (ideally with knowledge of Perl, Javascript, Java and Common 
Lisp). Applicants are expected to have excellent written and verbal 
communication skills and the ability to work as part of a team. As the work 
is in the engineering domain, knowledge of simulation and modelling tools 
(e.g. MatLab) would be desirable, but not essential. An interest in 
artificial intelligence, organisational learning, or knowledge management 
would also be useful.
