BARC arranges no training for its doctors, and neither does BRSCC. (Speaks someone who
has worked and trained marshals extensively for BARC and BRSCC). Neither do any of the
rally clubs. They are all simply too small. I know that BRDC arrange some motor-racing
flavoured ATLS courses and a little race car extrication, but that is all I know of in the UK.
Even the Motor Racing Safety Fund's annual lecture can hardly be described as a medical
lecture. The only thing I can recall is a meeting at Barts (IIRC) about 15 years ago. Some
research is apparently carried out by Sid (Watkins) with the F1 boys - staff about the Lear
seat, stuff about airbags, and side-impact protection, for example, but that never seems to get
published or circulated elsewhere.
Best wishes,
Rowley Cottingham
