Hello Julia,
Our MCPD it was implemented in Jan 1999 and will be reviewed in dec 2000 to
identify
any changes required to be able to implement the changes in the second cycle
commencing 2002. The competency based model is derived from the work of
Boyatzis, Cohen and Kolb1996: Innovation in Professional Education: Steps on
a Journey from Teaching to Learning: the
story of change and invention at the Weatherhead School of MAnagement.
Jossey-Bass Publishers, San Fransisco
It is a 3 year cycle and members have flexibility in selecting their type of
learning style from one of three modules - self-directed, group or
institution based learning. They can take one module or select from each.
Measurement is essentially self assessment of competencies and a points
system is used to start just to give the members some objective to reach.
One hour = 1 point and you need 100 points in 3 years (35 hours of learning
per year which is shown in the literature to be effective and based on
previous useage of PD).
Later there will be some refinement of the score e.g weighting for certain
courses. some special groups may require particular criteria to be part of
the membership to that group etc
You would get better information from the national office of the APA at

[log in to unmask] He was on the committee developing it and
did the PR sell in NSW - nice chap as well.
Cheers,
Anna.
