A much larger hammerhead crane (capacity 350 tons) stood for many years at the
Philadelphia, Pennsylvania Naval Shipyard in the United States. Erected in
1918, it was demolished within the last couple years. Prior to its demolition,
it was the subject of Historic American Engineering Record documentation. I
haven't seen the documentation (it is on file at the Library of Congress), but I
assume that it would discuss the technological significance of the hammerhead
crane.
