Art, Design and Communications Learning and Teaching Support Network
(ADC-LTSN) Workshop, held in collaboration with the Technical Advisory
Service for Images (TASI)

Pixcellating Vision:

'Creating a Digital Image Archive for Learning and Teaching in Art, Design
& Communications'
 
*A one-day workshop 
(as it is resource intensive and very 'hands on', this one day 
workshop will be held twice).	

Dates:
* (Workshop 1) Thursday June 15 
* (Workshop 2) Friday June 16 
Time: 	9.30am - 5:00pm
Venue: 	University of Brighton Computer Centre, Grand Parade, Brighton BN2
2JY
  
This workshop is recommended to anyone who is considering, or is 
embarking upon digitising images to create a digital archive for teaching
and learning.
 
It will be an intensive hands-on workshop and all attendees are expected
to have a basic knowledge of the Apple Macintosh Computing Environment. It
will provide comprehensive written supporting material for future personal
developmental work. 
 
Guidance will be given on the following issues:
1. The Digital image
 	- Using a Flatbed scanner
2. Resolution
 	- Exploring resolution
3. File formats
 	- Saving files in different formats
4. Colour images
 	- Scanning colour images
5. Colour management
 
There will be a Question and Answer session at the end of the day.
 
This workshop will be of particular interest to two groups:
*Those involved in creating, managing, using or distributing electronic
images for data storage or teaching.
*Members of the visual arts community who have an interest in digitising
images and works of art for archiving purposes.
 
This workshop is held in collaboration with (TASI) the Technical 
Advisory Service for Images, University of Bristol.
 
This workshop forms part of a series that ADC-LTSN is intending to run on
Creating Digital Content for Learning and Teaching Materials. Future
workshops will focus on Meta data for image content retrieval (October
2000) and on Copyright and Intellectual Rights Management (January 2001).
If you are interested in attending any of these later workshops, please
contact the subject centre 20 to reserve a place.

The cost of the workshop is GBP 100 for HE funded institutions in the UK.
This includes the workshop, support material, lunch and refreshments.
Limited spaces available so please book early. For non-HE, the charge is
125 pounds

 - Full payment must accompany all applications. Places will be allocated
in order of receipt of payment. The closing date for receipt is Friday 9th
June 2000.
 - Cancellation can only be accepted if received in writing not later than
Friday 9th June 2000. This will incur 30% charge for administration.
Substitutions can be made at any time.
