A general reply to the list in response to Barry Jackson's prompt. In the
Faculty of Art and Design, here at NTU we have been developing for a couple
of years now, an on-line teaching and learning environment which we are
calling Digital Dialogues. It aims to provide online feedback and discussion
facilities to support analysis of primary texts and exercises based on them.
Supporting material includes lecture transcripts, tutor-written navigation
guides to diffcult texts, audio visual illustrations and the concept of
research using both the electronic library and the internet (the library
without walls). Inductions into web-design, DTP and image manipulation
software offers the opportunity for assessed work to be presented in a
variety of formats. Primarily designed to deliver critical theory modules
more 'creative' uses are being discovered for the facilities and this
increases as student ownership of the space increases. We are fast
developing a space for internet performance, for example. There are obvious
applications in distance learning and continuing education.
I must say that I have been working in something of a vacuum and would love
to meet people with similar interests (GSOH essential, especially after a
year of QAA). So, yes, interest in follow up event to share ideas.

Subject: Re: On- Line Delivery
As it happens, Allan Davies (Director of the Centre for Learning in
Art and Design) and I - both of whom contributed to the "Diversifying
.." seminar, have been considering arranging a follow-up event, to
look in more detail at on-line or other forms of distance delivery in
art and design. Would there be an interest from GLADnet members?
