We are writing an article that describes the process
that took place in
the creation of a school wide policy to help guide
administrators, professional and paraprofessional
staff and parents in setting up a sexuality education
program for students with cognitive impairments. This
policy was designed specifically for adolescents in an
Occupational Training Center within a NYC Board of
Education school. In addition to the information on
sex education, the policy goes on to specifically
describe behaviors that would impede the young persons
transition to a work situation, which is the mandate
of the school in which the policy was created.
We are doing a search of the literature to see if any
other work like this has been undertaken and would
appreciate any resources or references you might know.
We are just looking for School Policy literature.
There is a great deal out there on staff/student
sexuality education already. We are hoping that this
article speaks to a relatively unexplored arena.
We think that the now defunct Coalition on Sexuality
and Disability did create a position paper on this
subject but have been unable to locate it. Any help
specifically with this would be appreciated.
Please send responses to [log in to unmask] or mail hard
copies of
anything related to:
Lorna Littner, 60 West 57th Street, NYC 10019, Apt.
8H.
Thank you,
Melvyn and Lorna Litter
