With the usual apologies for cross-posting...
The Social Policy Research Unit is delighted to be able to repeat its
successful course 'Doing Research with Children'. The course proved to
be an outstanding success first time round and will run again between
October 2000 and March 2001.
Doing Research with Children
A course designed for professionals working with children who wish to
gain knowledge of research methods for accessing children's views.
Aim of the Course
The programme aims to equip participants with the knowledge and
understanding that enables them to carry out research projects which
work with, rather than on, children to access their views.
Entry Requirements
We expect that participants will be practitioners within children's
services, with a professional qualification in areas such as nursing,
medicine, social work or education. There will be no formal entry
requirements, but participants will be expected to have experience in
work with children.
Accreditation
The course has been approved by the University of York as a non-award
bearing course.
Course Dates
Two courses will be run in the academic year 2000-2001. Each course will
require eight full days attendance, plus time for individual study and
research. Course 1 will start on Thursday 19 October 2000. Attendance
will be Thursdays from 19 October until 7 December. Course 2 will be
held from 25 January 2001 until 15 March 2001.
Course Staff
The course will be taught by staff from the Social Policy Research Unit,
an independent research unit at the University of York, all of whom have
considerable experience in research with children.
