One woman I know is a well-known activist, campaigning on both
enviromental and disability rights issues. She also has a severe
physical disability; she uses an electic wheelchair for mobility, and
needs assistance with most activities of daily living.
She was once one of many people arrested at an environmental blockade.
The people arrested with her all got jail terms. She didn't, because
of her disability. And she was angry. She actually appealled her
sentence, arguing discrimination. If the people she was protesting
with deserved jail time, she wanted jail time-- equal treatment. In
the end, she won her case-- and a custodial sentence.
