CALL FOR PAPERS
Geographies of Porn
We seek articles for a special issue of Cultural Studies that investigates
pornography’s practices and effects in particular locations; what counts as
porn and how does it matter in specific places, at particular historical
moments? Contributions should consider pornography not as a means for
stating an abstract position in a political and/or academic debate but
rather as a set of texts/technologies that is produced, distributed,
governed, and consumed within the conditions of everyday life. For
example, articles may map relations between sites of production and
consumption; focus on how access to and consumption of porn in the
household, town, city, or suburb is shaped by that locale; or analyze the
flow of pornography across nations. We welcome articles about specific
technologies--the Internet, film, video, cable, and printor about the
relationship between technologies in a particular location. Send 3-page
abstract to Jane Juffer, assistant professor of English, 116 Burrowes
Building, Pennsylvania State University, University Park, PA 16802.
E-mail abstracts, questions to Juffer at [log in to unmask] Deadline for
abstracts: June 15, 2000.
