You might consider contacting the Phenomenologist Prof Lester Embree at
[log in to unmask] who has worked with the history of archaeology and
also knows a great deal about Hermeneutics.
The best book I've ever read on Classical archaeology and its
philosophical influences is 'Down from Olympus: Archaeology and
Philhellenism in Germany, 1750-1970' by Suzanne L Marchand, Princeton
University Press, Princeton, NY USA, 1996
