International School of Science and Technology Sociology invites you to
participate in the XIII Session to be held in St. Petersburg on June 23 -
July 4, 2000.
*BRIEF HISTORY*
The School exists since 1992. This is the only research and educational
structure providing additional education and skills refreshment of experts,
researches and high school teachers in the field of sociology of science
and technology, science policy and high education sociology.
The International School for Science & Technology Sociology has been
established by the Research Committee on the Sociology of Science and
Technology at the International Sociological Association, by research
institutes of the Russian Academy of Sciences in St. Petersburg and
Moscow, by technical and economic universities of St.Petersburg as well as
by the St. Petersburg Association of Scientists and Scholars.
Traditionally, the School sessions include lectures, seminars, round tables
and open discussions associated with sociology of science and
technology as well as other fields of sociology.
Well-known Russian scholars and internationally recognized foreign
professors (from U.S.A., U.K., Hungary, Germany, France, Finland, Sweden,
Norway, Japan, Canada, Israel) delivered their lectures in previous
sessions of the School.
The XIII session will address the following topic:

The main problems of the sociology of globalisation
Globalisation in the light of the sociology of social changes, mechanisms,
means and forms of transition from isolationism to globalisation; security
and integrity of Russia in globalisation; ecology and globalisation; the
present situation with the globalisation of culture; the role of elites in
processes of globalisation; new aspects of ethics of science and
globalisation; sociological and anthropological methods of studying
globalisation.

The driving forces for development of Russia's science in the new social
and economic situation; self-sufficiency, regionalism and globalisation;
supranationalism structures in science and Russia's place in them; changes
in the international division of labour, the place of Russian science in the
world scientific space, in the system centre-periphery; significance and
factors of the international migration of Russian scientists and
transformations of the Russian society and the globalisation of science;
progress of the social sciences, humanities and globalisation.
Globalisation and tendencies of changes in higher education in Russia
The influence of globalisation on the content, forms and methods of higher
education in Russia: new strategies of development, national mentality and
process of globalisation, conception of double knowledge; global models of
co-operation between science and education; Russian scientific special
features; the Academy of Sciences and universities: old experience and new
realities; universities and industry; prospects for integration of science
and education
XIII Session of the School is held during the world famous «white nights».
Cultural program includes the visits to such art treasuries as Hermitage,
Russian Museum, Pavlov's Palace, Mariininsky theatre, etc.
