PhD Opportunity - Health and regeneration
South Bank University
Applications are invited from individuals interested in undertaking a
PhD in health and regeneration, based on a topic connected to a health
based regeneration programme in north-east London.
The Health Ladder to Social Inclusion is the first broad health-based
Single Regeneration Budget Programme (SRB) in the country. It is led by
Redbridge and Waltham Forest Health Authority and is a seven year
programme, which commenced in November 1999. The major spending started
in April 2000 and will involve projects in four main areas: jobs and
training; capacity building; improving access to primary health care
services; public health. South Bank University is taking lead
responsibility for evaluation of the SRB programme as a whole, there is
an exciting opportunity for a PhD student who is interested in
researching a topic connected with the regeneration programme. A short
description of the programme can be found in the Health Service Journal
11 November 1999, page 26-27.
Studies would be supported by a University Research Scholarship. This
award, which is for 36 months, subject to satisfactory performance and
progress, comprises: -
- a maintenance award of #7600 per annum
- payment of tuition fees for up to three years
- a Research Training Support Grant to cover e.g. consumable materials,
field work expenses, conference attendance, currently #550 per annum.
You must have (or expect to get) a good first degree (first or upper
second) in a relevant subject. Any successful applicant will follow a
first year research training programme that includes quantitative and
qualitative methods.
Applications should include a CV, three referees, and an outline
proposal (no more than 6 pages of A4 in length, this must include the
following sections: (1) Background to the Proposed Research (max. 1
page); (2) Project Description (max. 4 pages), to include: aims,
objectives and significance of the proposed research; work programme,
including timetable; anticipated outcomes and outputs).
