***Thank you kindly - there are just so many interesting and valuable people
and ideas out there in Cyberspace, and this group in particular has afforded
me some excellent learning and sharing opportunities, coupled with some
personal friendships.
Those who are not using the Internet, especially these discussion groups,
cannot imagine what they are missing. Imagine if we had to rely on snail
mail, FAX, telephone calls and conferences to share ideas as we are doing
now. And I am not referring solely to academics or work professionals,
because there are a lot of lonely, old and immobilised people out there who
could change their lives by meeting others on the Internet.
When many of us were just students, we had to go to the library for
information. If the material that you wanted was not there, you had to pay
for Inter Library loan or read through tiny extracts on microfiche. If you
wanted help from a world authority in another country, you had to rely on
letters of introduction and snail mail; now all we need is an email address.
What's more, all of us with computers and modems have a few thousand
libraries right in our homes!
What a wonderful educational and communication age we live in! Yet, what a
shame that the most popular cyberspace activities among youngsters often are
pornography and computer games. By all means explore a little and play a
little on the computer, but never forget that using it in such hedonistic and
fantastic (meaning fantasy-like) fashion denigrates a wonderful means of
personal enrichment.
Eventually I will have my own website set up to offer another educational and
enrichment tool, but other tasks always seem to be intruding. In that
respect I am most envious of our 'old' stalwart, Barrett Dorko.

P.S. SHarr - you forgot to sign your name again on your last letter - we do
like to know with whom we are chatting! If you forget again, I am going to
refer to you as "SuperHarralisticexpialadocious" or SHarr for short - or
maybe even "Sue Harry Poppins" as a pseudonym!
