To members of medical-education list:
Re: Workshop announcement from ASME
A two-day residential workshop will be held on:
Educational Research
15 – 17 May 2000
Venue:
The Three Tuns Hotel
New Elvet
Durham
DH1 3AQ
Workshop Aim
This two-day workshop will provide opportunities for individuals to develop
skills, share ideas and address specific problems, in carrying out
educational research. The emphasis will be on the strengths and
limitations of qualitative rather than quantitative research.
This event is largely similar to the workshop held in 1999 in Scotland, with
modifications based on delegates’ evaluations of the earlier event.
Who should attend
The workshop is mostly aimed at beginning researchers. Registrations from
those already planning or undertaking research projects in medical
education, are therefore welcome. Delegates will be limited to 40.
The workshop will be based at a quality hotel in the beautiful city of
Durham, easily accessible by train from most parts of the country. It is
residential including two nights stay, and a tour around Durham is
organised.
Format
Delegates will work mainly in small groups but there will be some 'keynote'
input. The workshop will largely be practical, and delegates will have the
opportunity to evaluate their own projects or research proposals. There
will be some preparatory work before the workshop.
Topics covered will include:
Overview of qualitative approaches
Survey methods
Project management
How to write up qualitative research
Relevant statistics
Use of qualitative computer packages (provisional).
