I believe that this is just ONE of the reasons for the internet - to get info out to as wide an audience relevant to the subject as is possible.
We at HAA use the listserves of associations that we subscribe to to advise of new image releases & other information necessary for Art historians & Librarians to relate to their
collections/libraries.
Providing the e-message is an "announcement" and NOT a sales plug, then it is professional information.
In the States and Canada the use of E-mail seems to be far more advanced and friendly than I see from sources in the UK and I for one am not bombarded with spams either!
