You may prefer to reply to me off list since this seems a bit elementary but
I confess I cannot for the life of me figure out how this is used or it's
syntactic explanation--and trust me, I've tried every possible grammar I
could lay my hands on and that would include such detailed and comprehensive
studies such as Grande grammatica italiana di
consultazione. The usage I'm referring to is "mangiarsi" I am sorry that I
cannot give an example here but what I can tell you is that when I've read
it it does not mean "chi mangia se stesso"!! I've searched far and wide for
the different uses of -si verbs, i.e., reflexive, reciprocal, impersonal,
etc. Is it as simple as to translate into English as "to feed oneself" or
is there some other significance.
