Second Call for Papers

Workshop on 'Real Life Evolutionary Design Optimisation'
------------------------------------------------------------------

Associated with:
6th International Conference on Parallel Problem
   Solving from Nature (PPSN2000)

6th Int'l Conf. on the Simulation of Adaptive Behavior
  (SAB2000)

16 September 2000
College de France, Paris, France

-----------------------------------------------------------------

THE DEADLINE FOR PAPER SUBMISSION: 30 April 2000

-----------------------------------------------------------------

OVERVIEW:
Original papers are invited for the Workshop on Real Life
Evolutionary Design Optimisation to be organised in association
with the 6th International Conference on Parallel Problem
Solving from Nature (PPSN2000). The aim of this workshop is to
explore the use of evolutionary computation techniques
for solving real life engineering design optimisation problems.
This workshop aims to bring together researchers working in the
area of industrial application of evolutionary based computation
techniques like genetic algorithms, evolutionary programming,
genetic programming, evolutionary strategies, simulated annealing
and tabu search. It will provide a great opportunity for
presenting and disseminating latest work in the fields of multi-objective,
multi-modal and constraint optimisation. It will
also provide a forum for identifying and exploring the key
issues that affect the industrial application of evolutionary
based computation techniques.

TOPICS OF INTEREST:
The scope of this workshop covers the following evolutionary
based computation techniques and their application to real
life optimisation problems:

Genetic Algorithms
Evolutionary Programming
Genetic Programming
Evolutionary Strategies
Simulated Annealing
Tabu Search
Hybrid Techniques

The application areas of interest include but are not
limited to:

Multi-objective Optimisation
Multi-modal Optimisation
Constrained Optimisation
Optimisation in Unknown Search Space
Optimisation of High Dimensional Problems
Integrating Qualitative Knowledge in Optimisation

SUBMISSION PROCEDURE AND PUBLICATION:

Full papers will be required in MS Word OR Postcript
format. The organisers strongly recommend electronic
submission (Email to: [log in to unmask]) of papers.
The length of the papers should not be more than FOUR
pages. The papers should be formatted strictly as per
the PPSN2000 conf. instructions
(http://www-syntim.inria.fr/fractales/PPSN2000/Submission.html).

Full papers will be reviewed by a panel of international
referees prior to their acceptance. Authors are expected
to make all necessary changes as suggested by the reviewers
before the final submission of full paper manuscript. The papers will
be published in a collective workshop
pre-proceedings which will be distributed in the registration
packages for both SAB and PPSN.

OFFICIAL LANGUAGE:
All papers will be in English. Main texts in the MS Word
and Postscript files should only include International
Latin-2 character set, and Greek symbols for mathematical
expressions.

WORKSHOP FORMAT:
The workshop format will be as follows:

* The workshop is proposed to be for half a day
consisting of individual presentations and an open
group discussion.
* Each individual presenter will be given 15 minutes
to present his/her work and another 5 minutes for
discussion.
* The last hour of the workshop will be utilised
for discussing the issues related to the topic.
This open group discussion will give the participants
an opportunity to comment and express their views on
the topic.

WORKSHOP ORGANISING COMMITTEE:

Dr. Rajkumar Roy, Cranfield University, UK (Chair)
Mr. Graham Jared, Cranfield University, UK
Mr. Ashutosh Tiwari, Cranfield University, UK
