I have followed some of the discussion whether we speak of disability and
impairment as biological or social or a mixture, the discussion seems to
have missed where and how both concepts are being discussed.
When academics get hold of these terms there is a tendency to define them
in a particular way, even though in interaction in lectures, conversation
or consultation their meaning is determined more by the context. For the
ordinary bod, it seems something similar occurs, these terms are use to
produce different meaning depending on the circumstances, the time, the
nature of the interaction-they can be anything from neutral to derrogatory.
It seems either term is very fluid-incapable of being define definatively
but defined by context. Then how should they be defined if at all, my
feelings are that it is impossible but that opens a pandora's box.
