If you really want something simple then there is a free one provided with
most new PCs - and that is Microsoft Works.
I personally still rely on my DOS database (MPRO Professional) which is far
faster then any Windows database, takes up less disc space, and has its own
programming language (if you are that way inclined...!!). As well as being a
structured Database, it is also free-form which allows me to put in huge
chunks of text which can be searched.
