Dear all,
I'm writing to ask if you would be interested in attending an 'online
learning forum' at the University of Bradford.
It's a straightforward proposal (which I'm keen to keep simple, and so
focused on maximising the benefit to fellow TLT Officers), which has been
endorsed by the Association for Learning Technology.
Recognising the intensifying interest in online learning 'tools' (I'm
hesitant to use any one of the plethora of buzz words and acronyms around
for fear of unintentionally excluding anybody) I wondered if TLT Officers
might like to converge on Bradford for a day to share their experiences
with different technologies.
I personally would like to see a range of technologies demonstrated by
those people most familiar with how they work to good effect in an
educational setting. Whilst I don't particularly wish to influence what we
might discuss, I'm thinking along the lines of 'WebCT', 'WebBoard',
'Firstclass', 'CourseInfo', 'Merlin', 'Nathan Bodington Building',
'CoMentor', 'COSE' , 'STILE' etc. (this is by no means an exhaustive list
of related technologies, just what comes to mind as I write).
If we start at 10.00 and finish at 16.30 we should be able to accomodate up
to 8 demonstrations (20 mins) with immediate discussion (10 mins) plus a
concluding discussion session of ~3/4 hour.
For my part I will provide a large lecture theatre with a PC (if you
require the installation of client software then bring your own machine),
Ethernet Internet connection (contact me in advance re. configuration),
data projector and large screen, lunch and refreshments.
Re. lunch I will require written confirmation of intention to attend (plus
any special dietary requirements) so that I can provide enough!
ALT is keen to support and be guided by the TLT Officers Special Interest
Group. Hence I would propose that we work towards communicating our
conclusions/recommendations to ALT so that, if interest persists, ALT can
host a more formal meeting of a similar nature.
There's no time like the present, so if there's sufficient interest, I'd
like to propose we gather early in May (final date tba). The meeting will
be restricted to TLT Officers - if there's greater interest then its over
to ALT.
Please let me know:
A. if you'd like to attend
B. if you'd like to give a demonstration
C. what you would like to demonstrate
Kind regards,
Brian
