To Whom It May Concern,
I am a post-graduate BSc Nursing Science student at the University of Northumbria at Newcastle, and a new member of the network. My interest in Shared Governance stems from course work I am developing around the governments Clinical Governance proposals contained within the "New NHS" White Paper, 1998.
I wondered whether anyone may be able to provide me with any interesting references or works which are pertinent to this subject. Specifically in relation to individual or organisational perceptions of changes in accountability and responsibility post White paper, or the local implementation of shared governance initiatives. As I am attempting to put together three separate peices of work around the same subject! My rough ideas for these three peices of work are as follows:
1. A research proposal into practitioners perceptions of any changes in their accountability and responsibility post White paper. Possibly utilising a case study format and a broad range of health care workers from Chief Executive across Consultants through various grades of both medical and nursing staff.
2. A critical essay examining the White Paper as a policy document in relation to issues of power, accountability, responsibility and clinical effectiveness.
3. And finally my reflective practice dissertation in which I hope to examine the concepts of accountability, responsibility, power and clinical effectiveness more fully.
As you can see these are pretty wide ideas at the moment as I am in the planning stages of each piece of work. Reading around and looking for the handle on each of them. If anyone can help at all I'd be very grateful, otherwise I apologise for congesting peoples email.
Yours sincerely,
Graham Whiteside
