This thought has been raised by revisiting the 'Just So Verses' while
checking the 'six honest serving men', but I have had the same thing
arise with other RK verses.
Do others find that they could do with 'bar line' or 'pointing' (rather
like you get in the liturgical psalms) to indicate how the rhythm runs?
The beat is nearly always insistent and distinctive, but frequently not
obvious: you have to put in pauses, elisions and particular stresses in
order to make it work. Sometimes I have to look at the corresponding
line in another verse in order to work it out.
Can anyone point me to a good study of rhythm in RK's poetry?
