William and all interested
Joy Paxton has posted the details of Anne Kearney's book (William -
Anne lives and works in Chorlton, by the way).
She also wrote a paper in Person-Centred Practice, 1997, Vol 5. No.2.
titled: Class, Politics and the Training of Counsellors.
Keith Tudor at Temenos has an interest in this area and may have some
information about research, but Kearney's main point (a roughly
Marxist position) is that class as an issue is undeclared and hidden
if not deliberately ignored. So there will not be much research
around if Anne Kearney is right.
Liz Ballinger a Masters student at Nottingham Trent University is, or
was (I'm not too certain whether she is intent on completing the work)
doing a modest research project on class and counselling. I will see
if I can dredge up a contact or see if she is still active in this
regard.
Good luck!

Subject: Class issues within counselling
Colleagues,
I have been asked the intriguing question "has any research has been
done on class issues within counselling"
I have come across a useful discussion in John Mcleod Introduction
to Counselling, second edition, and I know there is a PCCS book
whose details elude me, but it does feel an under researched topic.
Any thoughts,
William West
